Stroud
Standing proud high on a hill, Stroud is the most westerly of the Cotswolds town and the least likely looking Cotswold Town. It's reputation stems from being the only Cotswold town influenced by the Industrial Revolution - note the canals, gaunt mills and derelict railway tracks. The utilitarian red brick buildings replace the mellow Cotswold stone buildings of the other Cotswold Towns.
Take time out to wander up the hill to the 16th century Town Hall and the former meat market, known as The Shambles. The Stroud Festival makes good use of The Subscription Rooms for its' exhibitions, built in 1833 with a five bay facade this unusual building is well worth a visit.
