page heading

Northleach

Northleach was granted Royal Charterfrom Henry II in 1220 to hold a weekly market and so this was the beginning of this north Cotswolds market town.    The 15th Century church is declared 'as one of the finest 3 wool churches in the Cotswolds' and has Britain's finest collection of memorial brasses exclusively dedicated to the wool merchants whose money built this fine church the most noteable being one dedicated to John Fortey in 1458 AD, this is over 5ft long lying beneath the North Arcade.

There are a number of fine buildings within the town, we have listed just a few to look out for:-
  • Market Place
  • Tudor House
  • Keith Harding's World of Mechanical Music housed in the Oak House
  • The Dutton Almhouses
  • The Antelope Inn
  • The Guggle
