Burford in the Cotswolds

Burford

This ancient Oxfordshire town known locally as the Gateway to the Cotswolds sits on the River Windrush.  The picturesque High Street climbs steeply away from the river and has an eclectic mix of shops and businesses.  To see the town at its best then you are recommended to park the car and discover the delights on foot.

The industrial origins of the town are based on wool, stone, brewing bellfounding and sadlle and bridle making.  There is a remakable collection of 14th & 16th century houses in Burford reflecting the history of the town.  Tolsey House set on the corner of Sheep Street is a remarkable Tudor house, well worth a visit.
