Woodstock
A fine old Oxfordshire town long associated with the stunning Blenheim Palace. Long before Blenheim Palace, this according to the Domesday Book was the forest land reserved for hunting on by the king.
Set on the main thoroughfare from Chipping Norton to the dreamy spired city of Oxford. Woodstock straddles the road and offers a welcome break from the bustle of both the market town of Chipping Norton and the bustle of the City of Oxford.
However not until Woodstock Manor was given as gift to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, by Queen Anne as his reward for his part in the battle of Blenheim, she also signified that she would build at her own expense a house to called Blenheim. There is much written about Blenheim Palace and even today you are free to wander the grounds during daylight hours.
Close to Woodstock is the village of Bladon burial place of one of the 20th century's greatest statesmen Winston Churchill.
