Minster Lovell in the Cotswolds
page heading

Minster Lovell

A beautiful village set in the Windrush valley.  The river runs through the village and is crossed by a 15th century bridge just alongsie the The White Swan Inn

On the edge of the village are the ruins of the infamous Minster Lovell Hall, which is steeped in legend and ghosts, and the one time tomb of Francis, Earl of Lovell.

Although the Hall now lies in ruins it is worthy of a visit, the ruins are quite extensive and you will see original plaster work visible on the walls, take note of the beauitful cloistered rook.  The setting is very beautiful and quite romantic albeit with a very sad history.  The Hall is under the care of the English Heriatge and may be visited at any time.  A medieval dovecote in the grounds has been restored and can be viewed externally.

Whilst visiting why not take a stroll in the ancient and once Royal Hunting Forest of Wychwood, much of the wood has changed little and you can easily enjoy a sunny afternoon exploring this historic land - be warned a map  might be deemed essential unless you wish to become lost in the woods.
