The county town steeped in history with its' magnificent castle. The town of Warwick was founded on the banks of the River Avon in 914 AD.  By building on a small hill this ensured control over both the river valley but also the river crossing on the road to London and the roads to Stratford, Coventry and the salt way to Droitwich. The Anglo-Saxon town was surrounded partly by a wall and partly by a ditch.

 

From the medieval castle which is open all year round and features the Kingmaker and Royal House Party attractions to the many medieval buildings you can be sure of a real treat! 

The Lord Leycester Hospital is a prime example of 14th century timber framed buildings clustered around the original Norman gate into Warwick.   There are a number of museuems, the St Johns and Market Musuem, the Warwick Doll Museum.  St Mary's Church contains the Beauchamp chantry noted as the finest medieval chapel in England.
